Date : 30th April-1st May 2009
Location: NeSC, Edinburgh
OMII-UK is organising a two day Collaborations Workshop at NeSC, Edinburgh. The aim of this workshop is to bring people together from different fields to create innovative solutions, or approaches, to problems or issues in the e-Research community.
We are looking for participants, including existing OMII-UK collaborators and staff but open to anyone with an interest in working with OMII-UK, from any area of e-Research, including software developers, architects, infrastructure providers and users. Collecting talented people from a number of different fields should encourage approaches that work in one area to be applied to other areas or for new creative ideas to arise to the benefit of all.
Participants are encouraged to register discussion topics with a description and any specific requirements to be considered at:

Shortly before the workshop, attendees will be encouraged to indicate which of the suggested topics are of interest to them. On the day, break out groups will be scheduled to come up with solutions for a given topic. A solution may arise through group discussion, writing of software or by trying to deploy existing components to work together. Topics will be addressed for as long as is required within the duration of the meeting (or beyond) - it is up to the group members to judge when an adequate conclusions has been drawn. There will be regular reporting to the other attendees summarising what has been achieved by the group up to that point, what the group plans to do next or whether a topic has been exhausted. Once a topic has been discussed the group will migrate to a new topic or disband and join other groups after writing up a set of summary slides enumerating outcomes and possible future work (if any).
This meeting format has been successfully used at previous OMII-UK internal meetings. These were good for generating new ideas, requirements, solutions and, in general, constructively exploring the e-Research space. We found that inviting external guests to previous meetings has provided valuable input and they, in turn, have found these meetings to be very productive hence we are opening up the meeting to interested parties.
Note that there will be a £30 cost contributing towards the cost of the workshop including lunch, workshop dinner and teas/coffees.
